Extended Deadline: Research Methods for Sustainable Development Summer School, Paris

The deadline for the 6th Annual Alliance Graduate Summer School was extended! Apply by April 16, 2017.

April 05, 2017

Good Afternoon,

Columbia University's Sustainable Development Doctoral Program is organizing its 6th Summer School in Paris from May 29th to June 2nd, 2017, in cooperation with Alliance institutions of École Polytechnique, Sciences Po, and Université Paris-I. This year's topic is “Research Methods for Sustainable Development” focusing on remote sensing, network analysis and high-resolution data. The program will discuss various applications of these methods across economics, natural science and policy. Examples include remote sensing as applied to the ocean, vegetation, air pollution, and urban systems; network analytics in spatial economics, behavioral research, and ecological systems (e.g., fisheries); and how to harness “big data” from continuous monitoring and smart meters. The program will include both presentations from world-class researchers and workshops for participants to apply what they’ve learned with spatial analysis tools such as Google Earth Engine and data visualization software. The goal of the summer school is for participants to gain a better understanding of these methods to further their own research in sustainable development.

We welcome applications from students who are interested in these and related topics. This will be an excellent opportunity for participants to exchange and generate new research ideas as well as build academic networks.
