Congratulations to the 2024
Alliance Student Interns!

Dear colleagues, dear friends,

The Alliance Program is proud to welcome the 2024 Student Interns. Please join us in congratulating them!

Introducing Alliance 2024 Student Interns:

Gabrielle Rostand

CUIMC

Hosted by the Director of Pediatric Heart Valve Center, Surgical Director for the Initiative for Pediatric Cardiac Innovation, and Director of Kalfa Research Lab David M. Kalfa, M.D.,Ph.D.

I'm Gabrielle, a mechanical engineering master's student at Ecole Polytechnique. I hold a BA in Physics from the University of Oxford. My hobbies include ballroom dance, skiing and reading!

Julien Collard

Learning the Earth with Artificial Intelligence and Physics (LEAP)

Hosted by Professor of Earth and Environmental Engineering, Pierre Gentine Ph.D

I'm a third-year student at École polytechnique, France, specializing in environmental engineering. Originally from Marseille, I pursued a two-year preparatory program in mathematics and physics before joining Polytechnique for my engineering studies. Throughout my academic journey, I have explored various fields, including Machine Learning and geophysics, studying topics such as deep learning, meteorology, hydrology. I am excited about the opportunity to contribute to the research on extreme weather predictions during my time at Columbia.

Justine Biscay

Zuckerman Institute

Hosted by Assistant Professor of Neuroscience and Principal Investigator at Columbia's Zuckerman Institute Rudy Behnia, Ph.D

My name is Justine and I am an intern at the Behnia Lab for 4 months. I was born and raised in Paris, and I study applied mathematics at the Ecole Polytechnique. Outside of work, I love hanging out with friends, reading and playing tennis (even if I am far from being good at it)!

Oliver Pont

CUIMC

Hosted by the Director of Pediatric Heart Valve Center, Surgical Director for the Initiative for Pediatric Cardiac Innovation, and Director of Kalfa Research Lab David M. Kalfa, M.D.,Ph.D.

I'm Olivier, a French graduate student from Ecole Polytechnique where I specialized both in biomedical engineering and entrepreneurship. I love sports, especially soccer and martial arts such as judo and karate, DJing and music. I'm very enthusiastic about joining the Columbia University Irving Medical Center team to work on innovations to treat congenital cardiac malformations.

Madeleine Hueber

Irving Institute for Cancer Dynamics

Hosted by:

Professor of Statistics and Biological Sciences, Herbert and Florence Irving Director Dr. Simon Tavaré, FRS FMedSc

Associate Research Scientist in the Herbert and Florence Irving Institute for Cancer Dynamics and in the Department of Statistics Khanh Ngoc Dinh, PhD

Madeleine Hueber is currently pursuing a master's degree in Applied Mathematics. She is focused on Cancer Evolution and Statistical & Probabilistic Modeling. Her project involves developing a mathematical model that integrates the evolution of single nucleotide variants (SNVs) and copy number alterations (CNAs). She will be under the mentorship of Simon Tavaré and Khanh Dinh.

Tess Breton

Irving Institute for Cancer Dynamics

Hosted by:

Professor of Statistics and Biological Sciences, Herbert and Florence Irving Director Dr. Simon Tavaré, FRS FMedSc

Associate Research Scientist in the Herbert and Florence Irving Institute for Cancer Dynamics and in the Department of Statistics Khanh Ngoc Dinh, PhD

Tess Breton specializes in applied mathematics and computer science, with a focus on statistics and machine learning applied to healthcare. Tess is excited to contribute to cancer research at IICD under the mentorship of Khanh Dinh and Simon Tavaré.

Léa Bohbot

Irving Institute for Cancer Dynamics

Hosted by Assistant Professor of Biomedical Engineering and Herbert and Florence Irving Assistant Professor of Cancer Data Research Elham Azizi, PhD

Léa Bohbot is pursuing studies in applied mathematics at École Polytechnique. With an interest in statistics and machine learning, she will be working in Elham Azizi’s group. Léa is enthusiastic about leveraging machine learning and statistical modeling techniques to extract insights from biological data.

Marc Chevrière

Irving Institute for Cancer Dynamics

Hosted by Assistant Professor of Biomedical Engineering and Herbert and Florence Irving Assistant Professor of Cancer Data Research Elham Azizi, PhD

Marc Chevrière specializes in applied mathematics and data science. Marc aims to study the spatial organization and dynamics of gene regulation. While his previous research experience involves data science applied to neuroscience, he looks forward to developing a deeper understanding of biological research. He will be working under the mentorship of  Elham Azizi.

Habibi Mohammed-Yassine

Irving Institute for Cancer Dynamics

Hosted by:

Professor of Statistics and Biological Sciences, Herbert and Florence Irving Director Dr. Simon Tavaré, FRS FMedSc

Associate Research Scientist in the Herbert and Florence Irving Institute for Cancer Dynamics and in the Department of Statistics Khanh Ngoc Dinh, PhD

Habibi Mohammed-Yassine has a background in applied mathematics and physics. He has recently taken courses on stochastic models applied to biology which has piqued his interest in this field. He is eager to explore the applications of statistical modeling and understanding of cancer evolution under the guidance of Simon Tavaré.
