Barbara Jouves

Barbara Jouves' initial field of study was the history of the arts in the contemporary period (1789-1914), and more specifically the French painting history of the first half of the XIXth century, when she studied at the Université François Rabelais in Tours. After obtaining her degree, she focused on the material history of paintings and joined the “conservation and restoration of cultural heritage” section at the Ecole du Louvre. She wrote a museology thesis on the topic of restoration of mural paintings in the Musée du Louvre, as well as a Masters research thesis on the restoration of Napoleonian paintings in Versailles. She is currently working on her doctoral thesis, for which she is aiming at defining the specificities of paintings restoration in private collections in France of the XIXth century. She is also teaching at the Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne (Methodology in Conservation-restoration, Historiography, and European Modern Art from the XVIth to the XIXth century) and GRHAM’s founding member of the conservation and restoration section (Research Group in History of Modern Art).
