Internship description:
Ecology is a branch of biology that studies the interactions among organisms and their physical environment. Its focus on the systems level (communities and ecosystems) and flows and cycles (energy, nutrients, populations) has greatly advanced our ability to understand and influence the natural world and important insights have been gained for other complex systems. Similar to the biological world, the world of technology features a variety of devices and machines which form interdependent networks through which energy, material and information flow. What is missing for our understanding of technology is a perspective which provides a framework to understand technological objects in the context of their environment and each other.
Our goal is to establish an ecological perspective on technological systems, which aims to be of interest to theoretical biologists, synthetic biologists, and technology analysts. The intern will be expected to creatively contribute to this effort.
