MEDIA AS INQUIRY

This is a proposal for a four-week joint collaboration between Professors Riva Kastoryano (Sciences Po) and Frances Negrón-Muntaner (Columbia University) titled “Media as Inquiry.” The project will consist of three lectures, a presentation, and a workshop to explore how digital analytical tools, media analysis, and video/web building practices can be part of research and courses relating to social marginalization and exclusion in both institutions.

Marie-Laure Mallet is 2016-2017 Doctoral Mobility Student. She is a PhD student from Paris 1 University studying Law. Her research at Columbia University is on The Role of Social Assistance Programs in the Socioeconomic Integration of Immigrants. She plans to visit Columbia from August 2016 to November 2016.

Elise Rouméas is 2015-2016 Doctoral Mobility Student. She is a PhD student from Sciences Po studying Political Science. Her research at Columbia University is on Politics of Religious Pluralism: Interfaith "Dialogues" and Diagreements. She plans to visit Columbia from September 2015 to October 2015.

Professor Karen Barkey (Sociology & History, Columbia University) and Professor Christophe Jaffrelot (Political Science, Sciences Po) seek an Innovative Co-teaching Grant from the Alliance Program for their fall 2014 course, “Ethno-religious Identity and Politics in the Middle East and South Asia.” The course will focus on the relationship between religion and politics and the manner in which a past history of religious and ethnic communalism affects contemporary politics.
