I've been awarded the grant, what happens now?
What is the process once I am awarded the grant?
You have received your Letter of Intent and your Guidelines. Please sign and return them to [email protected]
Now you must:
1. Contact your host department (at least 3 months before your intended stay) and obtain a visa letter (a J1 or F1 visa is compulsory)
2. Confirm the dates of your stay with your Host Department and communicate those to Alliance
Alliance and Host Department: Who Does What?
Alliance manages the grant:
- Publishing the call for applications
- Reviewing the applications
- Managing the selection process
- Sending out the Letter of Intent and the Guidelines once the awardees have been confirmed
- Disburses the grant via reimbursement
Your Host Department is your go-to. Work with them to:
- Process your visa application
- Apply to GSAS/CLS (if applicable)
- Discuss associated fees
- Discover campus resources for research
Where can I find information on visas?
- French students coming to Columbia
Your host department will initiate your visa application with the International Students and Scholars Office (ISSO). YOU are responsible for gathering all necessary documents for the visa.
The ISSO has all the information, and can be contacted directly here https://isso.columbia.edu/content/applying-visa-students
Please note, there are two types of fees associated with ISSO and the visa application:
- a student fee
- the visa application fee
ISSO will be able to discuss these in greater detail.
If you already HAVE a visa, please be sure to consult this page to ensure it is compatible with receiving the Alliance grant (as reimbursement).
